But I have automatic updates turned off? Still this have any effects? I too want to try this. My broadband have a maximum speed of 2Mbs and i am usually getting a download speed or 210 KB/s. But some of my friends using the same provider is getting around 250 KB/s. When i took the connection I was getting that much speed. I really need to try this. Thank you

internet speed depends on your isp.there's so little you can do to tweak you speed.isp has the biggest control over waht you get.so ask your provider to increase speed instead.and the server you are downloading something has some power.they can limitthe download speed.you can get some more speed from a good server.

All you need is a proper uncluttered line and no traffic caps! Speed increasing softwares do not work! Ever.
QOS tricks etc will make no difference either. Just uninstall your antivirus/antispam/antimalware.
