Default Word 2003

I have a problem with word 03 on my computer that it displays a dialogue saying
Code:
word failed to start correctly last time. Starting word in safe mode will help to correct or isolate a startup problem in order to successfully start the program. Some functionality may be disabled in this mode. Do you want to start Word in safe mode? Yes or No
I have tried clicking either button but it then comes up with word without a document open if I click yes as it starts in safe mode and then when you close word next time you try to open it I get another dialog box saying
Code:
word has detected a problem with some of the current preferences. Would you like to restore these preferences to their default values? Yes or No
If I click either button I get another dialog saying
Code:
microsoft word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. There is a tick box with the words saying restart microsoft word and do you want to send an error report.
If I click either button I still continue to get the same problem. I have even tried reinstalling word 03.

Can someone please help me with how to fix this problem. Btw i am using xp 32 bit with a p4 with 1 GB of ram.

I would definitely recommend COMPLETELY UNINSTALLING and then reinstalling Microsoft Office Word 2003. This includes making sure all files, directories, and registry keys are deleted before you reinstall again. It sounds like something, somehow or another corrupted your installation. If that's the case it may have to do with your computer itself. Just to double check run your favorite anti-virus program as well as an anti-spyware and adware program to make sure that your computer hasn't been infected with anything to make Word behave so oddly.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling word and it still had the same error.

I did delete everything with no avail so I downloaded a trial version of office 2007 on which the error has disappeared which is quite funny and I don't want to pay for the 07 key at my expense so unless Microsoft comes up with a solution to this problem on their own I will seek a better alternative as I do not have the time to fix this problem.

There is no viruses on my pc because Norton hasn't detected anything and I recently got rid of Norton and installed AVG free due to licensing issues and still no problems.

Thanks for the help anyway.

I will say that you don't need Microsoft Office or Word. Try something else. Something like Open Office. Its is working fine for me. No problems in terms of License, Key or something else. Working fine and pretty well in my system.

Me too recommend Open Office...... It has got almost all the features of Microsoft Office suite. So, why spend money for buying Microsoft Office key and still you didn't get decent support? I just had a look at Office 2007 and found that it is over crowed and the easiness of using Word in earlier versions had gone.

I agree. I no longer will have this issue as I am re-imaging and re-installing windows on this pc and then I will continue to use crappy office and continue to use openoffice on my thumb drive.

Openoffice is great and the layout of 07 is really bad and takes to long to find the settings and options.
