Lightbulb Don't submit your website to search engines

I would personally recommend all webmasters that it is better not to submit your websites manually, even if it is new. I was doing a project regarding the performance of websites in search engine results and the factors affecting it. What I found was the majority of the webmasters had submitted their websites to the search engines manually or by placing an xml sitemap on their website. Now the interesting part is, those websites which didn't have any sitemaps and not even submitted to the search engines performed better in search results. The project is not complete yet as I am trying to find the causes of this effect. I will post it when the results come in.

You're Right. My SEO experience stats that, social bookmarking would work instead.

Submitting to Search Engines would take weeks to get your site indexed, but through social bookmarking, it'll hardly take 24 hours.

There are plenty of other ways to optimize your site though. But submitting to search engines is NO - from me too!!!

Really? Gee that's odd. I would have thought that submissions would rank better as they have the information given to them directly that way.

vcptis right. after doing a lot of work and getting my site indexed by google, i found that yahoo and msn has already indexed my site. i never even submitted my site in yahoo n msn but they indexed my site. so how this happened? that day i realised not to submit websites in search engines.but it's nice to have a sitemap.it really helps the bots.

I think its google which is lazy in indexing new sites. I made a new site and the work was not complete. I didn't submit it to any search engine, but somehow Yahoo, MSN, etc indexed it; not yet by google.

    Lightbulb Google,Yahoo,MSN

Taking the number of crawls made by the search engines I found that the Google bot crawls the highest number of times. Yahoo and Msn are worse off because they don't crawl as much as google bot does. There is a tendency for the yahoo bot and the msn bots to crawl less on a small site which has small number of visitors, even if the site is being updated frequently with relevant content. By contrast google bot loves sites which are updated frequently by unique content.

google crawls the site which have regularly updated contents.unique contents are really indexed fast.sometimes the script used for a site is so unfriendly to goolge that it only crawls the home page.

I made a website almost 2 years back and haven't made not much update to it. The best search rank i got is 9 and 20 for two keywords. I only checked with Google. Now i will have to try it in MSN and yahoo.

I personally don't think it matters if you submit your site manually or just wait search engines to pick them up. In the end, what matters is backlinks to your website.

If your website is new and you haven't submitted to search engines but you have relevant backlinks, you will get picked up by search engines.

If your website is new and you have submitted to search engine but you have no relevant backlinks, you will prob not get picked up by search engines quickly.

In the end, the more relevant backlinks you have to your website, the more search engines will love you. Getting backlinks is painful but once you get enough relevant backlinks as your competitor, you will start ranking high or even beat your competitor.

Start your site, get a blog up and write unique content, submit to directories etc
