Right click my computer, choose manage (computer management opens). In the left column it says Computer Management (local)
Right click it and choose: Connect to another computer
Select your computer you wish to shut down
Right click (where it used to say computer managment (local)....Then you get the computer information Goto the advanced tab and at the bottom choose Startup and Recovery and click the (mighty) shutdown button.

Better, if you know the host name or the IP address of the machine, you can use the shutdown command from the command line.

IF GNU/Linux, you could use SSH to login remotely and shutdown any PC, if you know the IP and the root password.

Very cool trick i have to say. We tried it once in our music class and tried to shut down our music teachers laptop with what he was presenting a slideshow to our whole class. Unfortunately we didn't found his computer and we failed. But we used another more complex method. This i think is much easier.
