I have latest Ubuntu and I use gprs through a dialer which is a little software provided with my modem. I do not have a linux version of that dialer. how can i connect to internet with that dialer in UBUNTU? any ideas? I tried to get the "wine" application but couldn. please help me. how to connect a modem in linux?

you can't use gprs on a linux. This is as far as I know. Try using a broadband service if it is available. Linux is not still that much sophisticated to run a gprs modem.

That's wrong. I was using gprs for accessing internet from GNU/Linux.

What kind of a modem is it? An internal one or the one you plug to USB?
First you need to detect the device name, which the OS assigns to it, when you connect the device.

After that, you can use "wvdial" to dial..

If it is a USB device you can use wvdail to dail. In our place lot of people are using this USB thing to connect to the internet, and you can certainly do that in Ubuntu.

it's edge data card named est-u810. it's an external usb modem. in windows it uses the COM ports.but theres nothing call COM ports in linux. so inside WINE, it stays undetected.I tried with ndiswrapper but no work.it does not assign it with linux ports like ttyUSB orttyACM.
