I recently received a Ubuntu Live CD. But when I put the CD in and restart the computer, I can select start or install Ubuntu. It loads and then hangs at a yellowish screen. I think one time, the toolbars flickered on for a second. What's wrong with it?

You have the minimum RAM capacity to run the Ubuntu live CD and the processor speed is also less. That's why you couldn't load the live CD completely. Instead of Ubuntu, you could try Debian, which has a graphical as well as normal old type installer, choosing the old type installer will help you install it in systems with even less hardware capacity than yours(I tried it in 128MB RAM and it worked fine)

yeah. Ubuntu is built upon Debian, but with the support from a vibrant community. But Ubuntu lacks support to a few multimedia formats. I prefer debian and its working fine with my 256MB system.

You might also want to try Damn small Linux (DSL) It is a really small linux and needs even less then standard debian ! But it is based on debian, only somethings changed !
