    Default How to create those small 16x16 icon images shown in address bar and in bookmarks ?

    Ok, I want to create a icon of 16x16 image for my site so that ppl can see it in there address bar and more importantly, when the bookmark it, they can identify it. So how to do it ? I am not looking to buy any software but may be any free tool or online service will be of great help

    From what I know, they're called favicons and you put the code below in your <head> tag.

    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/favicon" />

    Just put a 16 x 16 icon with filename "favicon.ico". Most of the servers automatically detect it and place them in the address bar.

    For creating ".ico" file, you could use Gimp, a free image editing software. There are a lot of free icons available in the net too.....

    get a icon already created and open it with ms paint. then erase the icon and design your own.save it with .ico extension.finished.

    Cool FavIcon Explained?

    Can you explain Favicon simply, and explain how a web page can assume its icon? ie. What directory, or link is it under (example of how it is used in a web page)? What is the exact term used, etc...

    I would appreciate help on this, and I am sure others would to, this should be an easy one to explain, thanks for your time...
