Default External Harddisk

I am currently searching for a external Hard Disk.I want lot of space around some 500 GB space and one which does not need an external power. Which is the best one to get. I heard that 1TB model with external power cost only about some 80$. Is there any 1 TB model available which require no external power.

it's hard to find an external Tb hdd without power support.i doubt there is one available.what about 500gb 2 hdd?you can try it.500gb 's are without power support.so you just plugin two hdd in the usb and it's done!though you computer will be slow if you use two hdd with usb.even 1TB will make your computer slow.what's the config of your system?

I'm 100% positive there is no 1TB HDD that can run on USB power alone.

They cost about 110 USD over here. Might be cheaper in India though..

May I ask why you want an external hard disk though? I've never understood. Surely, you aren't going to transport 1TB with you to office of anything. And if it's for a back-up, RAID1 would be a much better solution.

80$ average for 500GB.. that's acceptable.. so long that i could use up all 500GB and won't have a hard time when it's half-full. i'm just afraid sometimes of buying big spaced external drives if i can't use it to its maximum

I have got lot of photos and songs. So I need to keep it safe. The problem with DVD is that i don't know then its going to get a scratch and stop working. It happened to me with some DVDs. The quality of DVDs available over here is very very poor. So I need something to keep my photos safe. So I think i can utilize the size of the disk to the full extend.
